Marta LarsonI was the Community Education Coordinator for the Whitmore Lake Public Schools from 1977-1979.
I served on the the Northfield Township Zoning Board of Appeals from 1980-1996. I chaired a HUD Community Development Block Grant Citizen's Committee from 1980-1982, working to rehabilitate community housing and assure well water safety, mainly in the Horseshoe Lake area. In 1992 I moderated a public hearing held by the Clean Land, Air and Water (C.L.A.W.) group to inform the community about pollution issues.
In 1992 I was elected a Trustee on the Township Board, where I served until 2004. While on the Township Board, I represented the township at the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) in several capacities, including the General Assembly, Executive Committee, and the Education Advisory Committee. I also served on the Township Planning Commission from 2003-2004.
As a member of the township Historical Society, I assisted with the production of the manuscripts for both books that the committee has published on the history of Northfield Township and Whitmore Lake.
I have served on numerous school committees, and was awarded a certification of appreciation by the school district in 1984. Since 2006 I have been the Treasurer of the Whitmore Lake Foundation for Educational Excellence, which supports Whitmore Lake School District programs.
In 1995-1996 I was a part of the Northfield Township Senior Citizen's Center Advisory Board. From 1995-2000 I was a member of the Whitmore Lake Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
